fishy: (via) This morning, while tutoring a group of high school freshmen, I brought up Marilyn Monroe for one reason or another. There’s a brief silence, and then one girl says, “Wait… who?” They knew her as a “pin-up chick”, and one asked if she was like Paris Hilton. The only comparison I could give them was Britney Spears, because of the charisma and crazy, but that didn’t even come close. Do 14-year-olds really not know Marilyn? Something similar happened to me last week with a 16 year old and Bob Hope/USO.  It made me feel old.
